ARTEMIS Planetarium

Delve into the depths of the cosmos and explore the universe while we take you on a journey through space and time to discover new worlds!

ARTEMIS Planetarium is a mobile planetarium facility that tours schools, science festivals, and community groups.

The planetarium is a portable installation which acts as a fulldome 360° immersive cinema system and 3D theatre. Its an amazing way to take a tour of the night sky, access mesmerising landscapes, and journey through time and space. Our shows cover a variety of subjects and areas from science, to art, music, design and technology.

The ARTEMIS mobile planetarium is also available for hire for corporate events and festivals.

The planetarium also acts as a mobile teaching facility which can be set up within schools or outdoor venues. We have a number of shows specialising in supporting the National Curriculum along with workshops and hands-on activities which can be used in both the classroom,  science clubs and science centres.

The ARTEMIS Planetarium is part of our Cosmos Mobile Science and Technology Centre, a touring research and education/outreach facility which provides touring exhibitions, interactive galleries and hands-on demonstrative activities of cutting edge technology.

Explore the night sky and its constellations, travel through our solar system, take a closer look at the moon and find out where shooting stars come from. Learn about night and day, phases of the moon and why years are different lengths on other planets. Through story-telling we explore the myths and legends of the constellations and explore how different cultures tell different stories of the night sky.

How BIG is Big?

Stellar Evolution

How “big” is our Universe? How can we measure distances in Space? How are stars made and how long will our Sun live for?  These are some of the questions answered in this show. The origin and evolution of Stars and the Universe has perplexed astronomers for decades, with many theories being developed to explain observations. With each technological advancement in telescopes, astronomers are able to gain more data on our Cosmos.  We explore new developments in astronomy and look at the new generation of telescopes that are bringing us ground breaking discoveries in a daily basis.

Key Stage 3 : The Solar System and Beyond, Atoms and Elements, Light, Sound and Hearing, Energy and Electricity, Gravity and Space, Pressure and moments, Speeding Up, Investigating Scientific Questions,

Key Stage 4: Cosmology, Stellar Evolution

Computing our Cosmos – The Antikythera Mechanism

Antikythera Mechanism Model

The Antikythera Mechanism is an ingenious device, over a century of research has now established that it is in fact the oldest known astronomical and calendrical calculating machine. It can predict lunar and solar eclipses for decades to come. Its technology is so complex, it has astounded and intrigued scientists throughout the world. Computing the Cosmos covers the story of how the Antikythera Mechanism was discovered, what we currently know about it, and modern attempts by astronomers to map our cosmos to give us a better understanding of our place within the Universe.

Our Amazing Earth

Our Amazing Earth Artemis Planetarium ShowOur Amazing Earth is a journey starting from our home planet to explore the beauty of the Earth from space and examines the impact that humans have on our surrounding environment. Using moving music and imagery of live data from the European Space Agency and NASA the show creates a interactive tour of the visible signs of the impact on our environment, investigates climate change, and the current space missions conducting experiments to find solutions.

Workshops

Astronaut Training

Train like an AstronautTrain like an Astronaut in our ARTEMIS Astronaut Programme and become a member of our mission crew!

In our Astronaut Training Workshop we explore  the problems faced by astronauts and the skills they need as they live and work in space.

  • Make, taste and test Space food and find out about the diet of astronauts, which is needed for a healthy diet
  • Students can create their own space food and design an experiment that can grow food for future missions to the Moon and Mars.
